UNDIP, Semarang (December 16, 2025) \u2013 Universitas Diponegoro hosted\u00a0The 2025 UI GreenMetric Indonesia Awarding<\/em>, officially opened at the Muladi Dome, Tembalang Campus, on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. The opening ceremony featured a joint\u00a0gunungan-<\/em>lifting procession symbolizing\u00a0bedol gunungan<\/em>, performed by the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq; Vice Governor of Central Java H. Taj Yasin Maimoen; Director of Institutional Affairs of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Mukhamad Najib; UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo; Head of UI GreenMetric Vishnu Juwono; and UI Rector Prof. Heri Hermansyah. This procession marked the beginning of the 2025 UI GreenMetric Indonesia national agenda, joined by hundreds of universities across the country.<\/p>\n

Carrying the theme \u201cGreen and Sustainable Campus: Supporting Indonesia\u2019s Net Zero Emission and Shaping The Next Generation of Sustainability Leaders,\u201d the event was attended by university rectors from across Indonesia, higher education stakeholders, and guests. Beyond the award ceremony, the agenda included a national talk show, a green technology exhibition, and collaborative forums showcasing best practices for sustainable campus management.<\/p>\n

In his keynote speech, the Minister of Environment\/Head of the Environmental Control Agency, Dr. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, S.Hut., M.P., stated that support for UI GreenMetric reflects the nation\u2019s trust in the academic community as the frontliners of environmental sustainability, as the ranking is built on measurable academic processes and strict indicators. \u201cWithout the support of research, innovation, and critical thinking from universities, the government would not be able to formulate resilient and impactful environmental policies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Similarly, the Director of Institutional Affairs of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Mukhamad Najib, S.TP., M.M., emphasized that the agenda of impactful campuses has become a direction of national higher education policy, in which UI GreenMetric serves as a reflective mirror to ensure that education, research, and community service truly contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as creating social, economic, and environmental impact for society.<\/p>\n

As the host, UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed that hosting the 2025 UI GreenMetric Indonesia Awarding is both an honor and a great responsibility for UNDIP. He asserted that the event is not merely about celebrating rankings but about celebrating the collective commitment of Indonesian universities to sustainability. \u201cToday we celebrate\u00a0The Story of Our Institution and Society<\/em>\u2014the real narratives of how our campuses have become beacons in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals,\u201d he remarked, welcoming delegates to UNDIP People\u2019s Campus, the heart of Semarang City.<\/p>\n

As the National Coordinator of UI GreenMetric Indonesia, Prof. Suharnomo reaffirmed UNDIP\u2019s commitment to amplifying sustainability values not only on campus but also in society. He noted that campuses must become living laboratories where renewable energy innovation, waste management, water conservation, and SDGs-based community service are tested and applied in real-world practice. In line with UNDIP\u2019s tagline \u2018Noble and Valuable\u2019, he encouraged all universities to use this event as a catalyst for collaboration and sharing best practices for the sustainability of Indonesia and the world.<\/p>\n

On this occasion, Wijayanto also expressed his appreciation to the UNDIP Rector and all committee members for their support and hard work, and hoped that this forum would strengthen collaboration toward a greener, more sustainable Indonesia.<\/p>\n

Through the Campus Tour, participants were invited to observe UNDIP\u2019s sustainability ecosystem, including the Vocational School\u2019s Teaching Factory, the Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST), and the Diponegoro Reservoir, a hub for water conservation and environmental education. This activity demonstrated how the green campus concept is translated into concrete, measurable, and sustainable practices.<\/p>\n

Through this forum, UNDIP and UI GreenMetric encourage concrete collaboration among universities to build adaptive, sustainable green campuses, while strengthening the contribution of higher education institutions to national and global development agendas.
